Nokia to invest Rs 250 cr to change business

New Delhi: The mobile handset market leader Nokia, with facilities in the SEZ near Chennai, manufacturing plans to revamp its business in India by injecting fresh investment of Rs 250 crore over the next three years, with the potential to create 500 new jobs.

The company has provided information to the Department of Commerce, asking permission to restructuring plans. Since mobile phone manufacturer has a facility in Economic Zone (SEZ) specifically, it requires a nod from the Council agreement (BoA) for effecting changes in business models.

BoA, led by Secretary of Commerce Rahul Khullar, will take up the issue at a meeting on January 24, an official said.

“Nokia has submitted that with the change in business models and processes efficiently, further investment of Rs 250 crore in India operating in 2014 as well as the establishment of an additional 500 jobs is expected,” he said.

Senators supporting the work of Bill Wolf to victims of domestic violence

The Senate on Thursday passed a law that establishes rights of new work for victims of domestic violence that will help victims keep their jobs and increase economic productivity. The sound is 34-0. The beak has extensive support from advocacy organizations and the business community.

The Bill requires employers with 50 or more employees in order for up to 15 days leave, with or without pay, for each employee who is a victim of domestic violence or staying with family members who are victims of domestic violence. Employees can use the permission to get medical attention, counselling, housing, protection orders, and other legal assistance.

Employers must keep all information about employees leaving a secret. The employee must exhaust all leave are available, such as vacation and sick time, before seeking leave was established under this Bill; However, employers may ignore these requirements.
